Advice for FRAMING prints....Giclee Prints....?
When framing prints, does the surface i.e paper that the print is on NEED to fill a framei.e box frame?
Is it acceptable to use a large frame with a smaller mount and hold the print behind the mount with masking tape for example? i.e an A4 print in a A3 frame held in place by a mount?
Or does the print paper itslef need to extend to fill the frame?
Could a print held within a small mount in a large frame be saleable?
you are better off using a mount,it keeps your print away from the glass and as long as te mountcovers your image the paper size dont matter, the best method for doing your prints would be to have a mount and backing card taped together on one edge[masking tapes not much good, better off with a white gummed paper tape],then tear two small strips of tape 3cm or so and stick them on the reverse at the top and about couple cms in from the sides and 5mm or so sticking to the print, then line your image up under the mount and tape the two tabs to the backing, its called t hingeing, all you have to watch is that they are stored the right way up,the hinges are meant to break rather than damage the artwork, sorry if thats a bit long winded but seen a lot of art damaged over the years by bad framing and it is a simple and safe way of doing it
